'We're just asking for someone to come forward' | Family of murdered teen holds vigil to remember her and bring justice

Police found Kaitlin Hernandez early Wednesday morning off Dell Oak Drive after her family reported her missing.

SAN ANTONIO — Family, friends and the community of a beloved teenager who was murdered earlier this week on the northeast side of San Antonio held a vigil at the site her body was found on Dell Oak Drive.

Police found Kaitlin Hernandez early Wednesday morning off Dell Oak Drive after her family reported her missing. According to the medical examiner, the teen was strangled to death.

Investigators have not named a suspect in the case. Crime Stoppers is now offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

The vigil began at 4 p.m. and went until they released balloons for Hernandez just before 6 p.m. and was located at the same place Hernandez was found early Wednesday morning.

Hernandez's pastor was present and spoke at the event. Her aunt and other loved ones also spoke out to the community.

"The times she would call or text....she was just a loving caring person and she didn't deserve this," Hernandez's aunt Laura Padron said.

Everyone wore red because that was Hernandez's favorite color. Even the balloons they released were red.

As everyone gathered they held hands in payer, crying and hoping they will one day find justice for Kaitlin.

Her family said she was going to achieve so much in her life. They said she loved art and was playing soccer before this. She planned to graduate from high school soon but now, her graduation dress hangs on a fence at the vigil.

When everything wrapped up people started writing in chalk with the words "Justice for Kaitlin."

"Everything we're having to go through and plan and do...we don't want this to happen to someone else," Hernandez's other aunt Crystal Rodriguez said. "We're just asking for someone to come forward."
