SHAVANO PARK, Texas — A Shavano Park woman is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone who can help identify the car involved in her son's hit and run.
On Saturday, May 18, Ivin Vasquez was driving down NW Military Hwy in Shavano Park when a black, compact SUV allegedly exited a residential driveway, colliding with Vasquez' car as they made a left turn.
"I had blacked out for a couple minutes," he said. "The neighbors had pulled me out of the smoking vehicle. I came out super like disoriented, and I really didn't feel like I was there. I was so confused."
Vasquez had chest pains, nausea, a concussion and whip-lash from the hit and run.
"The driver took off and did not render aid when Ivan was hurt," said Angelica Vasquez, Ivin's mom. "So, I want the person caught. I want his vehicle fixed, and I want to be able to have some kind of normality to his life during like the other stuff that we're experiencing at the time."
The car is badly damaged. The front door will not open and the front bumper is damaged. The car was a gift from Ivin's parents for his high school graduation, and likely the last big gift his father will ever give him.
"It's the first car that his dad has ever bought him," Angelica Vasquez said. "His father is currently battling stage four terminal cancer, living his last days or possibly months. We're in the middle of packing up our lives because we can no longer to afford to live here in this area. He has to quit his job and drop his summer courses because there's just no way I can get him to work or to school."
The City of Shavano Park police is investigating the hit-and-run.
In a statement, a spokesman for the police department wrote:
"We have opened a case and initiated an investigation, which is ongoing. We are optimistic that we can identify the suspected driver and would ask anybody with more information to contact the City of Shavano Park Police Department."
