'He was a hero' | Family speaks out after man struck and killed by car while helping fix flat tire

On Saturday, Jan. 6, the family said Ray and his mother went to help a family member who got a flat tire off 410 near Alamo Downs Parkway.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man was killed while changing a flat tire. The family said 40-year-old Ramon "Ray" Saucedo was helping his family when a car hit him.

Laura Saucedo used to see her brother all the time.

"It is just hard," she said. "It was my baby brother. He died as a hero. My eyes, he was a hero."

On Saturday, the family says, Ray and his mother went to help a family member who got a flat tire off 410 near Alamo Downs Parkway.

"They parked on the left side with their hazards on and they said cars were already going around them," the sister said.

San Antonio Police said the driver took the exit from the main lanes to the access road. Police said the driver told them something fell from his passenger seat and he looked down. The driver ended up hitting Ray.

"He went at least a 100 feet still dragging my brother," she said. "I am angry. I am hurt."

She said Ray's mom and family had to witness the unimaginable.

"He went quickly," she said. "When he was already in the ambulance, he was already gone."

The family is now left unexpectedly planning a funeral. She said their pain should serve as a reminder when behind the wheel.

"Pay attention," the sister added. "Whatever you had, whatever fell can wait. Somebody's life is way more important than something spilling."

The family has created a GoFundMe to help raise funds for the funeral. A plate sale has also been organized for Jan. 20 from noon to 5 p.m. at Anguiano Insurance Agency, located at 2340 Culebra Road Suite 102.
