SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police say a man was shot in an east-side neighborhood after a heated argument.
This happened just before 11 a.m. Wednesday morning off the 200 block of Cooper St near South New Braunfels. The shots fired call forced a school just steps away to go on a lockout status while police searched for the shooter.
Police say this all started when a father came to a neighborhood looking for his daughter. When he found her, the encounter turned violent.
Now a 17-year-old boy is in jail, accused of shooting the father.
According to police, when officers got to the scene they found a man who’d been shot near the intersection of Cooper and S New Braunfels.
Officers say they soon figured out the shooting happened at a home about half a block away off the 200 block of Cooper.
Investigators figured out the victim went to a house off Cooper to find his daughter and got into an argument with a teenager who police believe is the daughter’s boyfriend.
Officers say the 17-year-old suspect then pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots. The father was hit once in the arm and rushed to the hospital.
The accused shooter ran away and the search was on to find him. Officers responded in force, with long guns and shields.
Officers went in to the house trying to figure out if the suspect was hiding inside. But their search came up empty, the suspect wasn’t inside.
Meanwhile, just before noon, police say they found the suspect a few miles away from where the shooting happened.
No one else is facing any charges, according to police.
Poe Middle School is just a block away from where the shooting happened and they held students inside the building while police searched for the accused shooter.
Police say the students and staff were never in any danger.
As for the teen accused of firing those shots, police say they will be talking to him to get his side of the story before they decide what charges he’ll be facing.
