Four arrested in connection to vehicle burglary spree, SAPD says

Authorities received several calls for burglaries along the I-10 corridor. The incident report states the suspects drove right into police custody.

SAN ANTONIO — Four men are behind bars after police say they went on a vehicle burglary spree that spanned several miles.

23-year-old Cedric Howard, 23-year-old Mark Lopez and 19-year-old Fabian Gonzales are all facing charges of firearm theft, while 21-year-old Daniel Casillas faces a charge of hindering apprehension.

According to the incident report, the suspects stole two guns from a vehicle parked at Academy Sports on Loop 410 and Vance Jackson. Then, they allegedly drove to a parking lot near the Ashley Store on I-10 where they burglarized another vehicle.

When the group reportedly tried to burglarize a third vehicle, parked at the Home Deport on I-10 and De Zavala, things took a turn. Police said the owner of the vehicle confronted the suspects and they pulled a gun on him. That’s when the victim fired his own weapon at the suspects.

Authorities said the suspects took off in a stolen blue sedan, but crashed it in a Top Brass parking lot less than two miles away.

Police said the armed burglars got away on foot. Witnesses reportedly saw them getting into a white sedan. That’s when investigators said they drove right in front of the police substation on Prue Road near Fredericksburg Road. They were stopped by several patrol officers and taken into custody without incident, authorities said.

With the exception of Gonzales, the suspects have lengthy criminal records in Bexar County. Previous charges include burglary, theft, evading arrest and unlawfully possessing firearms.
