Girl dead after being shot in the chest during an argument

Police said a suspect has been detained for questioning but no arrest or charges have been filed.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A girl is dead after officials said she was shot in the chest by another female during an argument.

On Thursday, around 4:15 a.m., the Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting on 14235 Streich Road. The reports stated that while two girls were arguing, one of them shot the other and ran from the scene.

Deputies began searching for the suspect while medical personnel started treating the victims gunshot wound. A short time later, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Sheriff Salazar said the early investigation leads officials to believe it was a fight between a group of six versus a group of four. The group of six reportedly traveled to the residence where the other group was.

"Words started getting exchanged, weapons were produced, at least a baseball bat, a knife and a gun. One of the males put down a gun, and they agreed to fistfight, one of them put down a knife," said Salazar.

He added that a second male joined in on the fight and a dog got involved and began attacking somebody.

The victim reportedly picked up a baseball bat and began walking towards the males fighting on the ground. A 15-year-old girl that was in the house picked up a gun and "fired a shot in the air, ostensibly a warning shot."

Salazar said the girl with the bat began walking towards the teenager with the gun and she "shot her one time, killing her on the scene."

The girl who shot the gun was brought in for questioning and Salazar said there might be "wiggle room for self-defense.”

BCSO said they still need to talk to more witnesses but no arrest will be made at this time.
