Theft of equipment in SA throws Tejano band's tour out of tune

"I woke up sad. I fell asleep crying," said the frontman for the 24-year-old band Grupo Siggno.

SAN ANTONIO — The last 24 hours have been unsettling for the lead singer of Grupo Siggno.

Jesse Turner said about $200,000 worth of equipment and merchandise were stolen in San Antonio from a U-Haul.

"My mind just kind of went blank," he said. "And then I went into a stage of shock. I woke up sad. I fell asleep crying."

Turner, the leader of the regional Mexican and Tejano band, is still trying to process the events.

"Somebody comes along and takes this from you, and it is something hard to accept."

The last time the band used all its equipment was on Sunday when they performed in Premont, Texas. On Monday, Turner said he got a call saying the U-Haul packed with the band's equipment was stolen on the southeast side, off City Base Landing.

He said they have only had it a couple of years.

"Just the merchandise alone was $14,000 worth of merchandise," he said. "We had boxes of T-shirts. Just talking about it, it is a downer. This is what we work for. We work so hard."

Turner said it wasn't just the merchandise that was taken, but also mega lights, speakers, screens, cables, boxes of equipment and lighting.

"I want to say easily over $200,000, easily," he said.

The artist was visibly emotional in a Monday video where he shared news of the stolen equipment on social media, saying: "If you only knew how much it takes to buy this stuff. It is just so hard."

Turner posted the message to let his faithful following know of the news. He also asked for people in the San Antonio area to be on the lookout.

"It is life," Turner said. "Life will sometimes drag us through the floor. Life can be cruel sometimes."

The singer said he's remaining positive and is thankful for the support.

"But they cannot steal my talent," he said. "They cannot steal my drive to want to do good. They cannot steal my dream or the love I have for music."

Turner said the U-Haul was later found dumped and completely emptied out. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office and San Antonio police are both investigating.

Turner hopes investigators will find everything. In the meantime, he said the band may have to rent equipment ahead of their Friday show in Irving.
