SAN ANTONIO — A 57-year-old, Irene Deleon Banda, remains in the Bexar County Jail, held on a $750,000 bond and facing a charge of capital murder.
The warrant for Deleon Banda's arrest was issued in Fort Bend County. It involves a 2020 murder in the town of Rosenberg, southwest of Houston.
Police there said the victim in the case was Banda's husband, Ramiro Martinez, who was 48 years old when he was shot to death in his home.
"The investigation is ongoing, therefore limited information is available at this time," Rosenberg Assistant Chief of Police Jarret Nethery said in a statement.
A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman said Banda was arrested somewhere in San Antonio on Thursday morning, adding that she surrendered without incident to DPS personnel and Texas Rangers.
A database search revealed Banda had a Texas driver license listing her address as the Canyon View area near Loop 1604 and Redland Road. When showed a mug shot of the woman, neighbors agreed she had lived in the otherwise quiet area, but some said she had moved about seven months ago.
Most said Banda kept to herself and that they didn't know much about her history, so they were shocked to learn about the charge she is facing.
Rosenberg police made one previous arrest in the case just a few weeks after it happened on Sept. 11, 2020. While investigating what detectives called a home invasion robbery, police arrested Jorge Castellanos, who was 32 years old at the time.
Investigators say the suspect was detained on the U.S.-Mexico border and returned to Fort Bend County, where he has remained jailed without bond until now.
At the time, investigators said Castellanos would be held "accountable for this egregious act of violence."
Citing confidentiality, investigators declined to elaborate on what alleged role Banda had in the murder. They also have not said when the woman might be returned to Fort Bend County to face trial.
