HOUSTON — A recent robbery victim spoke with KHOU 11 News with an injured arm still in a sling.
"He made some homophobic comments towards me," she said.
Stephanie didn't want to be fully identified. She said being transgender may have partly motivated an attack outside a gas station on Greens Road near her apartment.
"I was at the gas station waiting for a friend to pick me up and go out," she said.
The Houston Police Department released surveillance video that shows her running from the suspect after an initial confrontation. Seconds later, the suspect is seen walking back with her purse after striking her repeatedly.
"He hit me in the head so hard I felt dizzy and drowsy," the victim said. "That's when I fell to the ground and he kicked me and punched me."
Police said the suspect was seen on video pulling up to the front of the store in a beige sedan. It's someone the victim told us she'd never seen before.
"If someone recognizes him, report him to the police," she said.
Meanwhile, she's still on the mend from the attack that left her arm severely bruised and battered. She shared photos from the hospital immediately after the incident.
"This is the first time it's happened to me and I hope it's the last time," she said.
Right now, she said she's not comfortable being around strangers and has no plans to return to the store where she was attacked.
Wednesday happened to be Transgender Day of Remembrance -- when homicide victims are memorialized. Stephanie is just glad she wasn't more seriously injured.
