SAN ANTONIO — A Kerrville police officer shot and killed a suspect after they lead officers on a high-speed chase and charged at police early Tuesday morning, the department says.
According to KPD, a police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop around 1:15 a.m. on a car that was driving north on Sidney Baker.
Authorities say the driver fled from the officer which lead the officer to follow the suspect north on State Highway 16. Officers from the Fredericksburg Police Department and deputies from the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office assisted with the chase which continued into Gillespie County.
According to KPD, spike strips were successfully deployed as the vehicle approached the city of Fredericksburg and entered the city limits. The suspect continued driving and eventually lost control of the vehicle - resulting in the car rolling and crashing near the 1100 block of State Highway 16.
Authorities say the suspect exited the vehicle and began charging at a Kerrville police officer who then shot the suspect.
The Justice of the Peace arrived on scene and pronounced the suspect dead. The suspect's identity has not been released.
The Kerrville Police officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on paid administrative leave. the Texas Rangers will be conducting an investigation into the shooting.
