A New Braunfels teenager is home Friday after spending four days in the ICU at University Hospital following a fight that took place in the locker rooms at Canyon High School. His mother told KENS that her son is suffering from a traumatic brain injury and will likely take weeks to recover before he can return to school.

New Braunfels police say that on Monday morning an argument between a 15- and 16-year-old student ended in an assault of the 15-year-old boy. Both New Braunfels police and the school district are investigating the incident.

"It appears, at the outset, that an assault occurred. But at this point, investigators are reviewing all the facts, talking to witnesses, talking to the school district. We are still trying to gather all of that. We're in the preliminary phase of that investigation. And once that investigation is complete, charges will be possible," said David Ferguson, spokesperson for the New Braunfels Police Department.

The student's mother identified the 15-year-old victim as Jordan Ramirez. She says that she believes the two boys had been playing video games online, which had led to their disagreement. School officials say there was communication between the students this weekend that led to Monday's fight.

Because it's under investigation and the incident involves minors, officials can't say what, if any, disciplinary consequences the 16-year-old faced.

Many parents of students at Canyon High School are angry that this could happen at school.

"We're talking about people's children. Where are the teachers? Where are the coaches? Why aren't the coaches in the locker room with the boys? Where is the supervision?" one mother asked.

Parents on social media are also expressing anger that the school never notified them about the incident. School officials say it's not their practice to notify parents about an incident involving two specific students.

Jordan Ramirez's aunt has set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for his medical costs.
