SAN ANTONIO — New Braunfels police are investigating a possible murder-suicide after a man and woman were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Police were called for a welfare check on the 900 block of Pumpkin Ridge around 5 p.m.

Officers had received information about a woman who made threats to harm herself and her boyfriend. Family members had not been able to contact the man or woman for several days.

When officers arrived at the home they found a man and woman dead in a bedroom. They both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

Detectives are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.

Police said evidence suggests the woman identified as Abigail Garza, 32, of Robstown shot Matthew Ryan Burrer, 45, of New Braunfels before turning the gun on herself.

Officials said this is the first homicide in New Braunfels in 2024.

The incident remains under investigation by the NBPD Criminal Investigations Division.
