SAN ANTONIO — A man was arrested in connection to the shooting death of a 21-year-old woman in March 2024, Bexar County authorities say.
Jonathan Arriola, 20, was arrested for murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an incident that took place on March 9.
According to BCSO, deputies were called to the 8200 block of Old Pearsall Road around 4 a.m. for a reported shooting at a "takeover party." Sheriff Salazar said a group of people were gathered inside an old building that was previously used by the Knights of Columbus.
Salazar said Arriola was with friends at the party when some sort of disturbance broke out which resulted in Arriola being ejected from the party.
Arriola left in a vehicle with at least four other occupants and while he was exiting the area Arriola pulled out a weapon and shot at the building, Salazar said. Authorities said the gun was a full automatic weapon which had been converted into a "Machine gun" with a switch.
Salazar said, during the shooting 21-year-old Desirae Rivera was shot in the head and died at the scene. A man was also shot in lower extremities but survived
Investigators were able to determine Arriola was the shooter based on evidence including text messages, camera footage and several tips that were sent in by the public, Salazar said.
"I think he absolutely knew he was going to take someone's life," Salazar said.
According to BCSO, Arriola was located in Brownsville working a construction job. He was arrested without further incident.
Salazar said more people may also face charges related to this shooting.
