Man arrested after secretly recording people in San Antonio Zoo bathrooms, authorities say

Footage obtained from 22-year-old Alex Trey Casas' phone appeared to show two separate instances where victims were being recorded without their consent.

SAN ANTONIO — A man has been arrested after he allegedly recorded people in the bathrooms at San Antonio Zoo throughout the month of January.

According to an arrest affidavit, 22-year-old Alex Trey Casas' phone was collected by the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) in March, upon which it was forensically examined.

On the phone, arrest records say, several videos were found that appear to be secret recordings taken of people inside various bathrooms. One of those victims who wishes to remain anonymous spoke with KENS 5.

“It was just a scary thing… I don’t trust restrooms like that no more.”

In one of the videos from Jan. 5, it appears Casas is recording one of the victims, a male zoo employee, while he was standing by the sink. The angle appears to be from a nearby bathroom stall.

Two other recordings from Jan. 27 showed another victim, a male cleaning service employee, also being recorded. This victim was using the restroom during the recording.

Investigators said both victims appeared like they weren't aware they were being recorded. When shown the footage, both victims agreed they were the ones being recorded and confirmed the location was a San Antonio Zoo bathroom.

“I was a little shaken up," one of them said. "I was more embarrassed than anything.”

Casas was arrested and faces two charges of invasive visual recording, a state jail felony. Each comes with a $35,000 bond.

“I feel good (that) they’re holding him in a place where he can’t do this to anyone else," the victim said.

Citing the ongoing police investigation, a zoo representative told KENS 5 it was "unable to comment on any specific incidents." But the zoo did confirm it was working with police to "ensure a thorough investigation."

"As part of our response, Alex Trey Casas has been issued an indefinite no-trespass order from the San Antonio Zoo premises," the statement said. "As always, the safety and security of our employees and visitors remains our top priority.
