FRIO COUNTY, Texas — A man has been arrested in connection to the death of a 10-month-old Pearsall baby.
Back in June, a report says a mom called 911 to say she was rushing her unresponsive baby to a local hospital. After arriving, the call was made to send the badly injured girl to San Antonio by helicopter for more intensive care.
As the baby was being transferred, investigators immediately conducted a search warrant of their home for any evidence.
Investigators said they arrested the mother's boyfriend, 28-year-old Deion Salazar, for drug possession after detectives reportedly found 100 grams of cocaine and other drugs already packaged for sale.
The medical examiner later confirmed that 10-month-old Nylah Gonzales was pronounced dead after the family says she was suffering from injuries they say were consistent with abuse.
On Tuesday, the Frio County Sheriff's Office confirmed Salazar was arrested on an injury to a child- causing death charge and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
