Man arrested after allegedly striking several police units while fleeing from authorities

SEGUIN, Texas — The Seguin Police Department said they arrested a man after he reportedly struck several vehicles and left one officer injured while trying to evade authorities.

On Oct. 19 around 9:45 p.m., authorities said they saw a GMC truck driving into the Seguin Police Department at a fast speed. The vehicle reportedly drove away from the parking lot by cutting across a "grassy embankment in a reckless manner" as police were attempting to conduct a traffic stop.

Police said the vehicle continued driving northbound until it got to the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office and during this pursuit, the vehicle reportedly struck two Seguin PD police units as well as several parked personal vehicles in the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office parking lot. An officer involved in the pursuit was reportedly sent to a hospital with injuries but was later released.

Authorities were able to arrest the driver who was identified as 48-year-old Jose Antonio Hernandez Mendez.

Mendez was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail and was charged with aggravated assault peace officer- serious bodily injury, aggravated assault to a peace officer, intoxication assault serious bodily injury- emergency worker, evading arrest motor vehicle and evading arrest on foot.
