A man claims he shot a woman in self-defense after she stabbed him, but police unravel details revealing a new twist in the case

Investigators discovered a trail of evidence that turns the table on who's the victim and who's the suspect.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is accused of shooting a woman after he says she stabbed him.

The man claims he was acting in self-defense, but detectives said in an arrest warrant that video surveillance tells a different story about who provoked the attack.

According to preliminary reports released after the incident last month, police said 37-year-old Johnny De La Rosa shot the woman, claiming self-defense.

But now, the man claiming self-defense is behind bars accused of stalking the woman for months.

According to an arrest warrant, De La Rosa spun a web of terror, and the 21-year-old woman was the victim, trapped and fearing for her life.

On April 9th, the woman, who we are choosing not to name in this story, was arrested for stabbing De La Rosa who told officers he shot the woman, acting in self-defense.

While the woman spent 10 days in the Bexar County Jail, detectives unraveled a different story, and the trail of evidence led investigators down a different path.

Detectives report in police documents that moments before the attack on April 9th, video shows De La Rosa trying to run over the woman with his car.

Then, De La Rosa grabs the woman, trying to push her into oncoming traffic, according to the arrest warrant.

That’s when officers said the woman stabbed De La Rosa, saying she was in fear for her life.

And when detectives started digging, they found another twist in this case.

The woman told officers that De La Rosa is no victim, and claimed he had been harassing and stalking her for months.

According to an arrest warrant, the harassment started last year when the woman met De La Rosa when he was working at a convenience store where she often visited.

One time when the woman went to the store when De La Rosa was working he said, “she looked like she was a female over 17 years of age and they should get to know each other,” according to the arrest warrant.

After that, every time the woman would shop in the store, De La Rosa “tried to speak with her and make advances,” reported in police documents.

Investigators said the advances made her feel so uncomfortable, the woman reported De La Rosa to his manager.

De La Rosa was fired, and that’s when police said the harassment really started.

According to police documents, De La Rosa had on multiple occasions came to the woman’s workplace, attacked her in front of her co-workers, and tried to run her over when she tried to fight him off.

De La Rosa was arrested and charged with Stalking.  It’s unclear right now if he will be facing other charges.

KENS 5 reached out to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office asking if the Aggravated Assault charges against the woman will be dropped.

The DA’s Office said in a statement, the case is still under investigation, and they cannot comment on ongoing investigations.
