Man convicted in the murder of Jacob Dubois, young Schertz man who disappeared in 2021

Ethan Beckman initially faced a tampering with evidence charge before he was indicted in March 2023 for allegedly murdering Dubois, who was 22 when he went missing.

SAN ANTONIO — Three years after a young Schertz man disappeared from his home -- sparking a prolonged search and eventual murder investigation -- 23-year-old Ethan Beckman has been found guilty in his killing.

Jacob Dubois initially disappeared on March 7, 2021. By the end of the month, Beckman, Dubois' friend and the last person he was known to be with, would be arrested. It wasn't until September 2022 -- 18 months after he first went missing -- that authorities said remains found in Comal County were identified as Dubois.

Beckman initially faced a tampering with evidence charge before he was indicted in March 2023 for allegedly murdering Dubois, who was 22 when he went missing.

Authorities previously said Dubois met with Beckman in March 2021 but never returned home. Later, police said Beckman kept providing conflicting stories about where he dropped off his friend. Investigators later found blood in Beckman's car, along with items that could be used to dispose of a body; when Beckman was subsequently arrested, he stopped cooperating with police.

On Monday, a Guadalupe County jury came back with a guilty verdict against Beckman for first-degree murder and tampering with or fabricating evidence in the death of Dubois.
