Arrest made in shooting at north-side AutoZone, police say

San Antonio Police responded to a shooting in progress on San Pedro Avenue near North Star Mall around noon.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was found shot in the back across the street in the area of an AutoZone on the north side, authorities say. 

San Antonio Police responded to a shooting in progress on San Pedro Avenue near North Star Mall around noon on May 1. 

When officers arrived they found a man shot in the back. Police say the victim and another man got into some sort of argument and then the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

The suspect ran behind the auto parts store, jumped in a car and fled the area, authorities say. The victim was taken to a local hospital but is expected to recover. The suspect was arrested and has been identified as Victor Manuel Castro-Aponte, 42. He faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. and his pre-hearing is set for June 4.

Parents of students from LEE High School received a message notifying them that the school was put on a hold status during the incident due to the close proximity of the shooting. The hold has since been lifted.
