Man attacks driver with hammer, gets shot and killed in apparent road rage incident, SAPD says

San Antonio police responded to a possible shooting in progress along the access road near 800 block of E Hildebrand Avenue around 12: 20p.m.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was shot and later died after an apparent road rage incident on the north side Thursday afternoon, officials said.

San Antonio police responded to a possible shooting in progress along the access road near 800 block of E Hildebrand Avenue around 12:20 p.m.

Police said one driver allegedly cut off a 36-year-old man which caused the man to abruptly stop his vehicle in the middle of the access road. The man then grabbed a hammer and began smashing the window of the driver who allegedly cut him off.

The driver whose window was getting smashed then pulled out a gun and shot the man, police said. That driver claimed he feared for his life.

The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died, authorities said.

No other injuries were reported.

Police are still trying to collect evidence and details and are not sure if anyone will be charged.

Authorities strongly urge drivers to not engage in road rage incidents.
