Man sentenced to 30 years after he shot wife for not having meal ready for him

Contero received a first degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury to a family member.

ATASCOSA, Texas — An Atascosa man has been given 30 years behind bars after he admitted to shooting his wife for not having a meal prepared for him.

On Oct. 18, 2022, 79-year-old Alejandro Contero shot his wife three times because she hadn't made a meal for him. Contero confessed immediately and pled guilty to the charges on Nov. 27, 2023.

A family member reportedly testified to Contero's temper and poor treatment of his wife during a sentencing hearing. The victim prepared a statement outlining the abuse throughout their marriage, which was presented through a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
