Man convicted of intoxication manslaughter after a mother was killed in a 2022 head-on crash

On March 27, 2022, Christopher Del Toro veered his vehicle into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle head-on that was being driven by Jessica Brill.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A 42-year-old man was sentenced to 60 years in prison after being found guilty of intoxication manslaughter which stemmed from a 2022 crash that killed a mother.

On March 27, 2022, Christopher Del Toro veered his vehicle into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle head-on that was being driven by Jessica Brill.

Brill was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Del Toro's blood alcohol content level was reportedly more than twice the legal limit. Del Toro was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries before being arrested for an intoxication manslaughter charge.

A jury in the 226th District Court found Del Toro guilty of the charge but also requested the judge to hold Del Toro as a true defendant to his prior conviction for aggravated assault which classified him as a repeat offender raising the offense level to a first degree felony.

Del Toro will be required to serve a minimum of 30 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole.

“Driving while intoxicated endangers innocent lives,” said Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales. “Jessica Brill was in the car with her daughter when they were struck by Luis Del Toro’s automobile. Little did they know those would be their last moments together.”
