Man sentenced to 50 years for stabbing another man to death, officials say

Anthony Vasquez got into a shoving match with the victim. At some point Vasquez pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for stabbing and killing another man at a San Antonio home on the south side, officials said.

Anthony Vasquez, 52, was convicted of killing David Salinas, 39, back in November of 2021.

San Antonio police responded to a call for an injured person at W. Mitchell Street and King Roger on November 7.

When officers arrived they found a man - later identified as Salinas, dead in the yard with several stab wounds.

According to authorities Salinas had arrived at the home of a neighbor where Vasquez was also visiting.

Salinas and Vasquez somehow got into a shoving match which escalated into a fight. At some point Vasquez pulled out a knife and stabbed Salinas multiple times. Salinas was able to escape the home but collapsed in the yard, officials said.

Salinas was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

The case was assigned to the Felony Criminal Trial Division of the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office.

“Anthony Vasquez had no reason or excuse to take David Salinas’ life,” said Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales, “Today, Judge Rangel finished what the jury had begun and took away Vasquez’s freedom. Justice prevailed."
