SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after attempting to meet a 15-year-old girl for sex in 2023.

According to court documents, 48-year-old James Martin Shearer started communicating with a social media user claiming to be a teenage girl. Shearer then asked the girl for her address and a photo of herself, saying he wanted to take her for a ride in his car.

Shearer continued to text her the next day, asking when they could meet, to which the minor agreed to skip school the next day for the meetup. Shearer then turned the conversation sexual, telling the girl that her age of 15 "excited him."

The next day, which was April 27, 2023, Shearer texted the minor a picture of himself and arrived at the predetermined meeting spot.

Instead of meeting the 15-year-old girl, Shearer was arrested by the San Antonio Police Department. Authorities searched his vehicle and found meth, condoms and other sexual paraphernalia.

Shearer was found guilty of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor and attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor by a jury on March 5, 2024. He has since been sentenced to 15 years in prison as well as 10 years of supervised release.
