OL Wallace receives 45-year sentence after found guilty of murder in 2022 shooting at MLK gathering

OL Wallace, now 19 years old, was cleared of aggravated assault charges in connection with the shooting.

SAN ANTONIO — OL Wallace, the man accused of killing one and injuring others in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day gathering last year, was found guilty by a jury Monday.

The jury began deliberating Friday morning in Bexar County 226th District Court. Wallace was on trial for one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A jury found him guilty of a murder, but not guilty of the other charges.

Late Tuesday night, after a punishment phase that last several hours, the Bexar County district attorney's office announced Wallace, now 19 years old, was sentenced to 45 years in prison. He faces up to 99 years or life behind bars.

This all stems from an incident that unfolded on Jan. 17, 2022, along the 400 block of Spriggsdale Blvd.  Witnesses say Wallace showed up to a party after an MLK Day march with a gun and opened fire, hitting five people.

A witness says she recognized Wallace from an apartment complex where she used to live.

Police say one of the victims, Johnnie Mobley Jr., made it to his truck where he passed out.  Mobley was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Wallace's defense attorney John Young tried to make the case that the shooting was in self-defense.

"Gang violence and shooting into a crowd are both indefensible," District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a statement. "This crime cost Johnnie Mobley his life. We hope Mr. Mobley's family takes some comfort in knowing that justice has been served.
