Spot your car? Take a look at June's most-stolen cars in San Antonio.

The department didn't say how many of each model were stolen.

SAN ANTONIO — Multiple Hyundai and Kia models were among the most-stolen vehicles in San Antonio last month, according to a new list shared by the police department. But the Ford's F-Series of trucks led the way in June.

SAPD's list, which was shared to Facebook, didn't include the specific number of each type of car stolen in the city in June. Kias and Hyundais, however, have been particularly targeted across the country in recent months thanks to social media trends showing how easy it is to steal some models. The issue got so pervasive that Hyundai earlier this year began offering a software solution that the company said is meant to prevent these kinds of thefts.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), the most-targeted vehicles in San Antonio in June largely reflects the national picture; seven of the models highlighted by SAPD also show up on NICB's ranking of the top stolen vehicles in the U.S. for 2023.

SAPD's ranked list of June's most-stolen cars goes:

  1. Ford F-Series
  2. Hyundai Elantra
  3. Chevrolet Silverado
  4. Hyundai Sonata
  5. Dodge Ram
  6. Kia Optima
  7. Kia Soul
  8. GMC Sierra
  9. Toyota Camry
  10. Honda Accord

SAPD shared some easy-to-remember tips for preventing vehicle theft, including reminders to always take your keys with you and never leave valuables or guns in your car. Authorities also recommended:

  • Parking in well-lit or well-attended areas
  • Parking in secure locations like garages
  • Never leaving your car running, no matter how quickly you expect to return
  • Never leaving your registration, title or insurance card in your car

In their post, the police department asked how many in the community saw their car on the list and had it stolen. Within just a few hours, over a dozen people commented saying they were among the theft victims.
