Mother, boyfriend hospitalized after grandfather shoots them with kids in the vehicle, officials say

Authorities describe the incident as "a custody dispute gone sideways."

SAN ANTONIO — A "custody dispute gone sideways" leaves a mother and her boyfriend hospitalized after officials say the grandfather opened fire on them while their kids were in the car.

Authorities say the dispute was between the mother and the grandfather and it originated off of Royston Street when the mother had custody of her daughter earlier in the day.

The mother reportedly got into a vehicle with her boyfriend, daughter and son and drove away from the grandfather. Official said the grandfather proceeded to follow them and pulls up next to them before firing several rounds towards the vehicle.

The mother and boyfriend were both struck by bullets and but the kids were reportedly not injured.

They were somehow able to drive their vehicle to a local hospital and are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The grandfather reportedly drove back to Royston Street before getting arrested for questioning.

This is an ongoing investigation. KENS 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
