SAN ANTONIO — A local mother was kidnapped by two masked men after a violent home invasion on the northwest side, according to San Antonio Police.
The incident happened on April 5th at a home off the 6800 block of Terra Rye near Prue Road.
The victim survived, and was able to provide a vital clue leading detectives straight to the door of one of the suspects, while the search continues for the other suspect.
The terrifying incident happened around 9:30 a.m. that morning when police say the victim was home alone after dropping off her daughter at school.
According to police documents, the woman’s security system alerted her to the garage door opening and suddenly the woman saw a masked man standing in her home.
The victim ran to the back of the house, police said, and then she heard her “dog scream in pain,” and saw one of the suspects hitting her dog with a metal pipe.
According to an arrest warrant, 55-year-old Andre Taylor and an unidentified suspect broke into her home and then demanded she hand over the money in the safe.
Taylor and the other suspect then blindfolded the woman, police said, forced her into a closet at gunpoint and then ransacked the house, stealing the safe, jewelry, and a computer.
Investigators said the masked men then forced the woman into her SUV, tied her up with zip ties and then drove to multiple ATMs, demanding she withdraw money.
The victim later told police that she purposely entered the wrong pin number causing the transactions to be cancelled. That’s when police said the suspects drove the woman to a bank drive-thru and forced her to withdraw $2,500.
As the woman was being held captive in the bank drive-thru, police said the victim wrote, “Help me,” on the back of the withdrawal form and passed it to the teller.
But the victim’s cry for help went unanswered. Investigators said the teller never saw the note.
According to police documents, the kidnappers then drove the victim to a remote location off Old O’Connor Road, 19 miles from the victim’s house, and abandoned the victim and her car.
The two suspects are accused of holding the victim hostage for nearly five hours.
During the investigation, detectives said the victim remembered a vital clue, one of the suspects had grabbed a television they ended up leaving in her garage.
According to police documents, crime scene investigators were able to pull fingerprints from the TV and the prints were a match with Taylor.
The victim later identified Taylor in a photo-line up, and he was arrested.
According to a police report, the victim told officers only one person knew about the safe, her ex-roommate.
Police haven’t indicated if the former roommate is involved in the crime, and it’s unclear if the person is facing any charges.
Officers did confirm the other masked man accused in the home invasion and kidnapping, has yet to be caught.
