HOUSTON — A Houston woman accused of trying to sell her newborn baby online was due in court Monday morning but her court date ended up being reset.
According to court documents, Juniper Bryson is charged with the sale of a child. Bryson is accused of trying to sell her baby to the highest bidder on Facebook back in September.
It's unclear why Bryson was trying to sell her baby.
Court documents state that she posted in a Facebook group for birth moms looking for adoptive parents, and when people responded, she would send them a private message asking for compensation.
According to court documents, another witness who was present at the hospital when Bryson’s baby was born notified hospital staff and then Child Protective Services of what was going on.
Investigators said they seized Bryson’s phones after obtaining a search warrant. There they discovered several alleged conversations on Facebook Messenger.
In one of the alleged conversations, investigators said she told someone she wasn't going to wait until after the birth to get paid and was asking for a minimum of $150 upfront.
The sale or purchase of a child in the state of Texas is a felony, and anyone convicted could face two to 10 years in prison and be fined up to $10,000.
A judge set Bryson's bond at $30,000.
