Man receives 65-year sentence for 2023 murder at San Antonio bar

Roche Chism left the scene in March 2023 before later turning himself in to SAPD.

SAN ANTONIO — A 42-year-old has been sentenced to 65 years in prison nearly a year after shooting and killing a man during a bar fight that turned deadly last year.

San Antonio police arrived to a chaotic scene at Boneheadz Sports Pub early in the morning of March 30, 2023, when a fight broke out between two patrons and one of them pulled out a gun, officials said at the time. That man, Roche Chism, shot 36-year-old Daniel Reese, who later died after he was taken to University Hospital.

Officials say Chism later turned himself in to police. He would go on to be convicted of murder by a jury.

"Whatever the argument between the defendant and the victim, violence was not the right way to resolve it," Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with the family of Daniel Reese."

In addition to the 65-year sentence, Chism was also fined $10,000.
