One at large after shootout in east side neighborhood, SAPD says

A 40-year-old male was found laying in the street with life threatening gunshot wounds but is reported to be in stable condition.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are searching for a man who was involved in a shootout in the Government Hill neighborhood that left another man with life threatening injuries.

SAPD said they received a call reporting that a man was lying in the street with gunshot wounds. A male in his 40s was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but is reported to be in in stable condition now.

The victim told police that as a male was passing by, they exchanged words before the men started shooting at one another. The victim was reportedly shot in the leg, back and shoulder but couldn't tell if the other man involved was shot as he ran from the scene.

Evelyn San Miguel was inside her home with her mother and children when the shooting took place just feet away. She said she is hard of hearing but still heard gunshots.

“It was like loud, like loud," San Miguel said.

She ran outside and saw the victim laying on the ground. Her mother called 9-1-1 while she tried to explain to her children what had happened.

"I said, it’s okay, stay inside, somebody got shot," San Miguel said.

Police said they are working to figure out if the victim and the suspect knew each other. San Miguel said she did not recognize the men but is hoping they stay away from the neighborhood.

“My heart was beating fast, I got so scared," She said. "I’m really so scared.”

This is an ongoing investigation and KENS 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
