SAN ANTONIO — A 19-year-old man was shot dead by San Antonio police after an argument with his partner turned violent in the Medical Center area, according to authorities.
On Tuesday afternoon, an officer with the San Antonio Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Babcock Road after receiving a call for a domestic dispute. According to Chief William McManus, when police arrived they saw a 19-year-old man standing over a woman, his girlfriend, and pointing a gun at her.
That man allegedly shot in the direction of the victim. At that point, McManus said, the officer shot and and hit the suspect. He has been identified as Robby Jay Hernandez.
The woman wasn't injured.
Police Chief William McManus said the preliminary investigation shows the couple were in an argument when Hernandez left the apartment to only come back a little while later with a gun.
The suspect was sent to a local hospital where he later died.
This marks the 12th shooting involving SAPD personnel this year. The officer involved, Anthony Lane, is an 8-year veteran of the force and is expected to go on administrative duty, per department procedure.
