SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio police said they have made an arrest in the murder of Balcones Heights Police Officer, Julian Pesina.
Detectives arrested 33-year-old Jerry Idrogo late Thursday night for allegedly shooting Pesina dead outside of a tattoo shop back in May.
Idrogo has at least nine arrests in Bexar County for burglary, theft, drug possession and unlawful carry of a weapon.
According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Indrogo was in prison at several Texas facilities from July 2009 to February 2012 following a 2009 felony conviction for heroin possession. He was released five months early from his 3-year sentence.
Idrogo spent a majority of his time in prison at two facilities in the Amarillo area said Texas DOJ.
Court records show him living at 3110 Hillcrest Drive, which is about three blocks from where Pesina was murdered.
Police said they arrested Idrogo more than 1,400 miles away in Toledo, Oh.
Balcones Heights Public Information Officer Lorenzo Nastasi said the department [is] "pleased that the process has worked and are anxious for the next step to unfold."
It was not immediately clear when Idrogo will be transferred to Bexar County.
Pesina was shot six to nine times by two masked gunmen, investigators said, and taken to University Hospital, where he later died.
Pesina was off-duty at the time working at a tattoo shop where he was part owner.
It was widely suspected that Pesina had gang ties, and that the murder was actually a gang-related hit.
Balcones Heights Police Chief Henry Dominguez was fired just weeks after Pesina was shot after City Administrator Amy Buckert said Dominguez might have known Pesina had possible gang ties, but failed to do anything.
In a termination letter, Buckert listed several reasons why she felt Dominguez was not fit to be chief.
Buckert cited a lack of leadership in the dispatch department and failing to manage schedules and overtime.
Buckert also mentioned Dominguez was aware of Officer Julian Pesina's possible gang ties, which could've lead to Pesina's death May 4.
Balcones Heights City Council voted 3-2 to uphold the termination of Domignuez in July.
