Man charged after April 16 shooting stemming from 'minor' car accident in Southtown

SAPD initially said the altercation took place between the victim's boyfriend and two suspects. One person is now in custody.

SAN ANTONIO — A 36-year-old man is in custody after allegedly shooting a woman in the aftermath of a car accident earlier this month in Southtown.

That "minor accident" happened in the 200 block of East Fest on the afternoon of April 16. According to arrest documents, surveillance footage in the location showed Daniel Welderufael taking out a handgun and firing at the 22-year-old woman and her boyfriend during an argument about the crash.

She was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Surveillance video also showed Welderufael was picking up a food order, allowing police to further identify him as the shooter after contacting the food delivery company in question, records state. Photos taken by a witness of his car further linked him to the crime.

Welderufael faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remains jailed on bonds totaling $150,000.
