SAN ANTONIO — A man has been arrested after a pony and horse were found in a stable authorities considered unsuitable for livestock.

On Thursday, Bexar County deputies were called to the 500 block of Shagbark to investigate an animal cruelty case.

When they got there, they found a pony and horse confined in a "makeshift stable" that they deemed was unsuitable for livestock.

When deputies unlocked the stable, the animals made their way to a grassy area quickly and started eating, displaying signs of hunger, according to authorities.

The owner, 36-year-old Alfredo Farias, admitted that he knew of the poor conditions but did not seek medical attention for the animals.

The animals were removed immediately and taken to a recovery facility.

Farias was later arrested and charged with cruelty to livestock animals.
