Former SA band teacher accused of improper relationship with student, police say

Jesse Ybarra Orta was charged with Improper Relationship Educator/Student, a felony criminal offense.

SAN ANTONIO — A former band teacher was arrested after allegedly having an improper relationship with a teenage student, San Antonio authorities say.

Jesse Ybarra Orta, 32, was charged with Improper Relationship Educator/Student, a felony criminal offense.

San Antonio Police said a 17-year-old victim informed investigators that she had a sexual relationship with Orta while he was a band teacher. According to an arrest affidavit, Orta touched the victim inappropriately multiple times when they were alone in his office.

Students previously reported Orta that was acting inappropriately with certain students. Several of those students were questioned by school administrators but they all denied anything inappropriate happened at that time. During that investigation Orta was placed in a different position in order to limit contact with students. He resigned from his position shortly after.

According to the arrest affidavit, the sexual relationship continued between the victim and Orta after he resigned. The victim came forward after trying to end the relationship with Orta. The victim said Orta became upset and told her he would commit suicide.

The victim then informed her mother of the relationship and revealed text messages that stated they had loved each other for several months, investigators say.

Police say Orta is also connected to an invasive visual recording incident with a different victim. It is not yet clear if he is facing charges for that.
