SAN ANTONIO — Three victims and three suspects.
That's the tally from an early Sunday morning aggravated robbery on the west side, at Glendale Avenue and Prosperity Drive.
The victims told San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officials they were approached by three males just after 2 a.m. One male victim told officers he lost his car to the trio at gunpoint.
A second man told police he was pistol-whipped in the head by one of the suspects while a third victim, a 17-year-old woman, told police her purse was taken.
Police said a description of the stolen vehicle was shared over their radio channel. Nearby officers saw the vehicle and were able to stop it in the 1200 block of Old Highway 90.
Officers said they found the three suspects still inside the car, along with a stolen gun.
Two of the suspects are 17 years old and were charged as adults with three counts each of aggravated robbery. The third suspect is 16 years old, according to police, and he made an initial appearance in juvenile court Monday morning.
A probation officer told Judge Cruz Shaw this is the teen's second trip to court, having previously faced charges of drug possession and unlawful carry of a weapon.
The officer reported that the teen's mother claimed he has been having problems at home and school, mainly related to substance abuse. Saying the teen associates with people who are older, the officer said the teen has been influenced to make bad choices and should remain locked up.
A prosecutor agreed, saying the 16-year-old appeared to be a danger to himself or others and hasn't been allowing himself to be adequately supervised.
Defense attorney Monica Guerrero asked the judge to consider releasing the teen to his mother, with the condition that he be required to wear a monitor.
The crying mother told Shaw she would like her son to come back home.
Giving the teen a chance to speak on his own behalf, Cruz told the young man: "You did this! Isn't that right? So what do you want to say now?"
Speaking haltingly, when the teen said he was sorry for his behavior Cruz admonished him to apologize directly to his mother, which he did.
During a busy morning on the bench, which included two other juveniles facing murder charges in unrelated cases, Cruz told the teen, "Y'all think this is a game. I keep telling you all, you're going to pull your guns on the wrong person and Mom's not coming to a detention hearing. Mom is going to the hospital or picking your body up for a funeral!"
Before ordering the teen to remain detained for the next ten business days, Cruz emphatically told the teen, "Y''all aren't made for these streets. You think you are, but you're not!"
Police said the investigation into the group continues, as online records indicate two adults are being held on bonds totaling $150,000 for each man.
