SAN ANTONIO — A 31-year-old man was jailed after allegedly admitting to San Antonio authorities that he squeezed a newborn girl out of frustration and tried to hide burn injuries he caused by dropping a lighter on her, arrest records show.

The victim, born on Feb. 26, was brought to a hospital Thursday with a burn injury, according to an affidavit. That's when David Botello Jr. admitted the abuse to a detective, saying he "squeezes the victim when he becomes frustrated with her."

He also "admitted to using enough pressure to cause her injuries" sometime in the first month of her birth, records state. The baby was found to have broken ribs, a broken leg and a broken foot. She was also suffering from a burn mark as a result of Botello allegedly dropping the lighter on her arm, after which he "did not seek any medical treatment," records show.

Botello faces charges of injury to a child; his total bonds were set at $115,000 and he has a court appearance scheduled for April 30.
