SAN ANTONIO — Good News Lutheran Church, on the southeast side, reports thieves have recently stolen electronics, money, and even pumpkins.
Holly Guthrie, the church's council president, said recently thieves made off with more than a 100 pumpkins from its patch. The church is located off Old Corpus Christi Highway.
"It seems our little country corner of San Antonio is starting to become more, and more urban," she said.
Guthrie said lately the church has been dealing with recent crime. Back on September 30, Guthrie said a man hid in the church and waited for people to leave. She said he then left with property belonging to the place of worship.
"With some cash we would have used out here," she said. "iPads, electronic equipment."
The latest act she said happened this past Sunday.
"Instead of coming to worship they chose to take some pumpkins from the patch," she said.
She said people came to the church's pumpkin patch and made off with the gourds.
"100, 125 in a bushel basket of our tiniest baby pumpkins."
She said that could have been money gone the church and its countless programs, as well as other organizations.
"We forgive anyone," she said. "We forgive everyone, that is what Christ calls us to do."
The church filed reports with San Antonio Police and plans to have conversations with city leaders on having more officers help patrol the area.
Meanwhile, the pumpkin patch is one of its largest fundraisers to keep its doors open. For more information, click here.
