Suspected repeat car thief now accused of shooting homeowner investigating car break-in

He's also accused in multiple car theft cases.

SAN ANTONIO — A young suspect in a car burglary incident is now accused in a second shooting involving a man who stepped outside his home to investigate a car break-in.

Ring video captured on Feb. 27 in west San Antonio shows the confrontation where the suspect, 19-year-old John Salinas, is accused of shooting Christopher Santiago outside his home. Santiago was hospitalized for about a week after the incident and is now recovering at home.

Salinas faces aggravated robbery charges in connection with the incident. He was already in jail in connection with a separate but similar shooting that happened the day prior, when a homeowner walked outside to allegedly find Salinas "with a mask on inside his mother's vehicle," according to records. The homeowner was shot at but not hurt.

He also faces charges for at least two car thefts.
