SAN ANTONIO — A normal night became a nightmare for Evelio Soto as he watched the moments someone broke into his SUV on home security footage.
Soto and his family had just wrapped up a late night after his kid's track practice and everyone was heading to bed when his wife saw two people approaching their home on her phone.
Soto said he thought they were coming to break-in to his house so he immediately got out of bed and grabbed his gun.
Going down the stairs Soto made it to his front door and quickly opened it. That's when he said he noticed the one person going through his car got spooked.
Soto said he followed him down the driveway where the suspect got into the "get away" vehicle. When the person who was with (the second suspect) him tried getting in the car, that's when Soto said the second suspect fired his gun.
"He tried to close the door and he couldn't that's when he shot and that's when I returned fire and they took off."
Soto would shoot at the ground twice after the second suspect shot at him once.
"Everything happened so fast."
SAPD would show up soon after to get a report of what was stolen. Their report shows a list of things like US Currency/ Coins and Bullet/Live Round.
No one inside the home would be hurt, including Soto himself but he wants people to know that this is not right and feels he and his family should feel safe in their own neighborhood.
"The parents of these kids, they should be taking care of their kids."
This is an ongoing investigation and SAPD is looking for more information to try and catch the suspects in the video.
If you have any information about these suspects, SAPD encourages you to call 210-207-7969.
