SAN ANTONIO — A 31-year-old man sentenced to life in prison for attempted capital murder of a peace officer reacted by escaping law enforcement while leaving the Bexar County courthouse on Thursday, authorities say.
Antoine Foster was being loaded onto a vehicle to be brought back to the jail when he jumped out and hit a deputy, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. Foster then "fled on foot in the downtown area."
It's unknown how long Foster was on the loose, but BCSO said deputies re-apprehended him around 5:45 p.m. "without incident."
Court records indicate Foster pleaded not guilty to his charges before a jury found him guilty on the attempted capital murder charges, as well as aggravated assault against a public servant.
According to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office, the trial stemmed from an incident on July 17, 2020, when Foster fired nearly two dozen times at officers arriving to investigate a domestic violence call on the north side. Officers returned fire, eventually subduing and taking him into custody.
Now, after Foster evaded authorities Thursday, he also faces escape charges.
