SAN ANTONIO — A 28-year-old woman is in custody after allegedly bringing a handgun to a fight outside a San Antonio nightclub last month before the altercation turned deadly.
Katie Angel Laboy faces murder charges for introducing the weapon in the Sept. 21 incident outside Manhattan Night Club, according to an affidavit, and is being held at the Bexar County jail without bond after being arrested Thursday evening. But law enforcement are believed to still be looking for Francisco Alejandro ValbuenaTabares, the 24-year-old man accused of pulling the trigger.
Police arrived to the club along Blanco Road around 2 a.m. on Sept. 21 and found the victim, 23-year-old Alix Rodriguez, shot multiple times. He later died after being taken to a hospital.
Over the course of their investigation, detectives found surveillance video showing Laboy and ValbuenaTabares leaving the club with friends earlier in the evening. ValbuenaTabares was seen talking with the victim while Laboy walks to her car, outside the camera's field of view.
She then could be seen returning, records say, with a handgun tucked into her waistband but visible through her shirt. The encounter turned into an argument shortly after, as Rodriguez punched ValbuenaTabares, causing him to fall while Laboy helped him back up.
Rodriguez's friends tried to pull him away in an attempt to "break up the fight," the affidavit says. But Laboy then "removed the handgun, racked it and pointed it at the crowd as they were leaving." ValbuenaTabares then allegedly took the gun himself, pointed it at Rodriguez as Rodriguez walked towards him and fired, hitting him.
Both ValbuenaTabares and Laboy were wanted for Rodriguez's murder, the latter because she didn’t stop ValbuenaTabares from shooting Rodriguez when he had the gun in his hands, authorities say. Laboy also allegedly lied to investigators to prevent them from finding ValbuenaTabares.
She is currently being held without bond.
