SAN ANTONIO — A 29-year-old man was arrested after allegedly sending sexually explicit messages and photos to a young member of a family he has known for years, San Antonio authorities say.

According to San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) Officer Ricardo Guzman, the victim's parents noticed the messages on her phone and contacted authorities in July. Detectives subsequently found enough evidence on Joe Ramos' phone to conclude that "he was trying to meet with the intention of sexual conduct."

"This all took place within three weeks," Guzman said, referring to how long Ramos allegedly was messaging the young girl. "The parents, through monitoring their daughter's phone and social media, were able to discover this (and) called police."

Ramos was taken into custody Wednesday "without incident" and charged with online solicitation of a minor under 14, a second-degree felony. If convicted, he could be jailed for up to 20 years and/or fined $10,000.

Guzman said SAPD encourages parents to monitor their children's social media and messages to prevent potential exploitation, and to call police instead of intervening directly if they find anything suspicious.
