SAPD: Car seat prevents worse injury for teen driver in apparent road-rage shooting

No suspects were immediately arrested in the investigation.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police say a car seat might have saved a teenager from being hit by gunfire in a violent road-rage incident on the west side.

A sergeant with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) said the victim was filling up his car at a nearby gas station when they "encountered" the suspect. Both then took to the road, at which point the suspect's vehicle hit the teen victim's car through the back while in the area of North General McMullen and West Commerce.

The sergeant said he believed the bullet hit the seat and lost momentum, preventing the teen from being struck directly. He said the victim suffered a welt injury that wasn't life-threatening as a result.

The suspects managed to flee the area before police responded around 4:40 p.m. No other information was provided about what happened at the gas station leading up to the gunfire.
