BCSO arrests domestic violence suspect who authorities say took his own daughter hostage

Authorities said the suspect was intoxicated and assaulted a woman he's in a relationship with before a standoff that ended with tear gas deployed.

ATASCOSA, Texas — Bexar County deputies arrested a domestic violence suspect who they say assaulted a woman and then held his daughter hostage during a standoff with law enforcement that ended with tear gas being deployed.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, the man assaulted a woman he was in a relationship with at a home on the 15000 block of Herring Road in Atascosa. They said the suspect, 49-year-old George Robles Luna, invited the woman over and wanted to go to a bank, but she wouldn't let him drive because he was intoxicated. Sheriff Javier Salazar said the suspect kicked the woman in the stomach and threatened her with a weapon.

When deputies arrived to the scene around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, BCSO said, the suspect used his daughter to shield himself from deputies and hid in the home. Salazar said deputies were eventually able to get in contact with her and get her out of the home, leaving the suspect alone inside as they worked to get warrants for his arrest and monitored the home with a drone.

Salazar said they used a robot to open the door, but the suspect pushed it back and closed it. A SWAT team tried to get in contact with him, but when that unsuccessful they used tear gas to clear the home. The sheriff said the suspect came out of the home and surrendered peacefully.

Luna faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

This is a developing story.
