San Antonio doctor arrested in connection to online solicitation of a minor sting

The man was arrested as part of a sting operation run by SAPD's Human Exploitation Unit.

SAN ANTONIO — A regional leader of a health services provider was arrested Thursday in connection with a sting operation run by SAPD's Human Exploitation Unit for allegedly trying to solicit sex from a minor online.

The unit seeks out and arrests online predators that target children as their victims. Police identified the suspect as 46-year-old Anthony Martinez, who officials with U.S. Acute Care Solutions confirmed is a regional vice president for the medical care provider. He has been suspended from his role "pending the outcome of the police investigation."

According to authorities, Martinez believed he was messaging a child and arrived in "the vicinity of a school with the intention of meeting with a minor female to engage in sexual conduct." Instead he was confronted by SAPD detectives and officers, who took him into custody without incident.

Martinez has been charged with online solicitation of a minor with intention to meet for sexual conduct, which is a third-degree felony in Texas. He faces between two and 10 years in prison if convicted.

Online court records indicate Martinez was released Friday after posting bail on a $50,000 bond.

The Texas Medical Board announced that they had temporarily suspended Martinez's license to practice law in the state "after determining his continuation in the practice of medicine poses a continuing threat to public welfare."
