Police believe man attacked and shot was set up by his girlfriend

The 19-year-old told officers that he went to the park to meet up with his girlfriend, but her friends showed up instead and attacked him.

SAN ANTONIO — An 19-year-old man was shot early Wednesday morning at a park on the northwest side of town and police believe that he may have been set up by someone close to him.

San Antonio Park Police were dispatched just before 2 a.m. to Jane Dubel Park in the 4700 block of Callaghan Road near Loop 410 and Bandera Road.

The 18-year-old boy told officers that he went to the park to meet up with his girlfriend, but her friends showed up instead and attacked him. He was also shot in the arm. The girlfriend was nowhere to be found.

Investigators believe it was the girlfriend who may have orchestrated the meet up. It’s unclear if the victim was also robbed or why the girlfriend lured him to the park where those suspects were waiting.

The victim was taken to University Hospital in stable condition.

A description of the suspects, who fled following the attack, was not provided.

Police tell us the victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

This is a developing story.
