SAN ANTONIO — The man accused of killing a pregnant teen and her boyfriend found shot dead in December was indicted by a Bexar County grand jury Wednesday. His father and stepmother were also indicted on separate charges.
Christopher Preciado, 19, is charged with capital murder after allegedly killing Soto, baby Fabian and Matthew Guerra. His indictment also includes charges of abuse of a corpse and altering, destroying or concealing a corpse.
"An unborn child is a person under the laws of Texas and could be, should be considered as a person in terms of whether or not to add an additional count," District Attorney Joe Gonzales said.
The Bexar County district attorney also presented the grand jury with cases against Preciado's father and stepmother, who are accused of helping him to get rid of the bodies.
Ramon Preciado was indicted on charges of abuse of a corpse and altering, destroying or concealing a corpse. Myrta Romanos, Christopher's stepmom, was indicted on those same charges, in addition to a tampering with evidence charge.
“We’re going to try and expedite these cases as fast as we can," Gonzales said.
Wednesday's indictment was returned three months after Soto and Guerra's bodies were found the day after Christmas in a northwest-side apartment complex parking lot. Soto was scheduled to give birth the weekend she disappeared. Eight days later, on Jan. 3, Preciado and her father would be taken into custody.
A CLEAR Alert for Soto, 18, was initially issued on Christmas, two days after she never showed up for a scheduled appointment to be induced. On Dec. 26, police said 22-year-old Guerra was also considered a missing person. Hours later, their bodies would be found and a search for the suspects would spark.
Preciado and his father, Ramon, were taken into custody Jan. 3. The murder suspect's stepmother, Myrta Romanos, was arrested a week later; she's accused of helping the pair to get rid of evidence.
