SAN ANTONIO — Three people have been arrested after allegedly robbing an armored truck Tuesday afternoon on the northeast side, including a man who was able to elude authorities for some time. Police said they're believed to have committed similar crimes in recent months.
SAPD Public Information Officer Camelia Juarez said the trio robbed a Brink's truck at gunpoint while workers were refilling an ATM around 1 p.m. in the 5100 block of Walzem. They fled the area in a car while being followed by a police helicopter.
They eventually arrived at to a Schertz neighborhood about 15 miles away, Juarez said, where 31-year-old Anneil Tedder got out of the car and was taken into custody. A second suspect, 41-year-old Glen McGarity, was eventually detained after he was "seen jumping through the fences of this neighborhood" in the 3800 block of Morning Drive.
xxxxx, xx, was able to escape the neighborhood before officials said he was detained sometime Wednesday.
It's unknown how much money was stolen and eventually recovered, but police say the suspects have been involved in other robberies and face federal aggravated robbery charges, with others possible.
Juarez said SWAT teams also responded for "crowd control" given where the chase ended up. Two schools, including Sippel Elementary, were briefly placed on lockdown as law enforcement searched for the trio, SAPD said.
